The 2nd Wall Street Movie Not As Controversial As The First
A tingle was in the air the 2nd it was announced there would be a new "Wall Street" movie. The new film, "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" has been talked about endlessly. The stock market crash in the 1980s was the inspiration for the 1st movie. Similar events coincide with the sequel. Douglas returns as Gordon Gekko, and it is set within the real estate crisis of 2008. There is a popular thread in both movies. Unbridled greed and dishonest dealings in the realm of high finance leading to disaster.
'Wall Street': The Traders Strike Back
The real estate crisis of 2008 is the setting for the second film, as the stock exchange crash of the 1980s was the setting of the first. The presumption is that Gordon Gekko, the role Michael Douglas plays, went to jail following the first film ended, as the second film opens with his release from prison. The legendary role earned Douglas an Oscar. Gekko, earning a living by giving lectures to students, is enlisted by his estranged daughters' fiancé, played by Shia LaBeouf, to bring about a corrupt hedge fund managers' ruin. The movie, erroneously referred to as "Wall Street 2," is intended to be a story of redemption.
The actual Wall Street
People that work on Wall Street are aware that it is just a movie. A post within the Wall Street Journal by Martin Fridson opines the film captured popular outrage, but that it ignores actual causes of the 2008 crash. A Wall Street lawyer, who stayed anonymous also said the film was fine as entertainment, according to ABC. He also maintained that the film shouldn't be taken as more than that. Dramatic portrayals of historic events often leave out crucial details, for the sake of sensation. Oliver Stone is no stranger to this kind of criticism, and Wall Street heavyweights which were technical advisors lamented his liberal use of license over portraying the complexities of actual life.
Good individuals of Wall Street don't get observed
The adage about bad apples spoiling the bunch is true. Many traders and workers on Wall Street are incredibly ethical and work really hard. That said, that kind of thing does not sell tickets or magazines unfortunately. The movie "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" would be dull if that was the subject.
