Why do I slice Irons off a tee?
I hit my driver straight off a tee.
Off the tee I fade my 3 & 5 wood.
Off the deck I fade my 3 & 5 3wood & 6 Iron.
However off the Tee I slice my irons.
Why is this?
How do I combat this?
Am I pulling my head? Do I need to slow down my swing?
Should I have the same swing off the deck as with a tee?
How low should I tee the ball?
T E M P O......I would imagine that when you hit your irons off of a tee you are speeding up your tempo a bit thus leaving your hands a bit behind. Try this....when you bring the club back do it slowly and even pausing a bit at the top before bring it down. I like to subconsciously say "one - two" during my swing. One being the back swing and two the down swing..If you try and hit the ball too hard, off tempo, you have a tendency to leave your hands behind a bit and thus the face of the club open. Make sure you finish your swing meaning at the very bottom rolling the right hand over the top of the left similar to how you were taught to hit line-drives in baseball. It is a natural part of the swing and hence is why you finish your driver...but as you swing harder and faster with your iron this rolling motion is delayed. The next time you are at the range try hitting your iron off of a tee not going for distances at all....just a smooth ONE-TWO swing letting the club do its thing and rolling your hands at the very bottom.
