How to unlock a lever door handle?
We have a lever door handle for our bathroom and my sister accidently locked it and left so now we cant get it to open. We have a brass lever door handle. On the inside its the twisty lock (the one its like a line and you just have to make it vertical from horizontal to lock) and on the outside (the side facing me) is just a little hole. How can we unlock this without having to remove the whole doorknob?
The lock will either pop-out when you insert a stiff straight piece of metal, I would suggest a finishing nail. Or inside the hole may be a metal pin with a slot cut in it just like a screw without the head. These type of locks usually come with a key that is a flat piece of metal with a small rectangle at the end with a slender body that ends with a small squared cut-off. This is inserted in the hole and you fumble or twist it a bit until you feel it seat into the slot. then you turn it with turns the lock on the inside to open it. If you don't have the key handy, you could try using something like a jeweler's screwdriver that you can insert in the hole and fit into the slot.
good luck
