TaylorMade Burner Irons

The new kid on the block in the TaylorMade Iron family is the Burner line, where the R7 line is most associated with movable weights, the Burner line stands tallest on the have to have clubfaces and technology that increases clubhead speed. Now, the Burner line has brought us that same technology and greatness to the irons podium.

For a few years now the R7 drivers have been used by Pro’s, semi pro’s and amateurs’ alike, the Burner driver and fairway woods have been played on the Tour by players like Sergio Garcia, Kenny Perry and Sean O'Hair, so that must count for something

TaylorMade has packed a lot of that technology into the Burner irons. Taylormade calls the Burner iron "The Only Iron with Burner Speed, Burner Power, and Burner Distance".

 

TaylorMade has packed a lot of that technology into the Burner irons. The long irons attribute Inverted Cone Technology to guarantee distance remains constant on off centre hits and the clubface has been thinned to make each club more flexible and faster. The clubhead is larger and pooled with a wider sole to both increase MOI and lower the centre of gravity position. The result is longer irons that are similar to hit as TaylorMade’s Rescue club but with the added benefit of accuracy and control that only irons can bring.

Short irons were planned to deliver responsive, controlled clubs which score highly on all counts of accuracy, forgiveness and feel, and last but not least is the 2009 Burner middle irons, which are longer and more specific than the previous TaylorMade irons.

 

 

TaylorMade's burner irons Inverted Cone Technology, copied from their successful line of woods, is seen on the backside of the clubface. Inverted Cone Technology is intended to expand the sweetspot and deliver high ball speed.

TaylorMade's irons SuperFast Technology also extends to the shafts. The 90 gram RE*AX SuperFast Steel 90, it's a stepped shaft, with the steps occurring more densely nearer the clubhead and then with increasing distance between them toward the grip end. The very last step comes two or three beneath the grip.

These steps theoretically should result in a mid to high kickpoint on the shaft which apparently achieves more clubhead speed.

The Burner irons multi-functional sole creates a low Center of Gravity point while reducing turf-drag and promoting the astonishing playability of a slim sole. Along with a multi-material cavity badge that dampens vibration, the Burner irons will provide you the forgiveness of oversized irons but the feel of a players club.

We tried to bring a package to players that would basically redefine the iron set, in that it gives unprecedented distance in the long irons, but with control and feel that the best players demand. The mid irons are all about confidence and power, where as the short irons give the impression of being a player's club. It's kind of the set you wish you could buy, but that you'd have to mix and match to do so. The long irons have the thinnest faces we've ever put in an iron Tour players would play, but we were able to put it into a head that would still appeal to their eye and deliver a Tour quality feel and sound. The effect is that with the much improved launch conditions and ball speed, we've given 15 more yards in the long irons. Kenny Perry was 13-16 yards longer, while Faldo, who doesn't have as much speed, went from 187 with his 4-iron to 211. We've matched the entire set to ensure consistent distance gapping throughout the set. With the added distance, we're seeing our Tour players opting for an additional scoring club and leaving out the 3iron, same trajectory and feel, just dramatically different results. You'll see the short irons are definitely more traditional looking and performing. This is a new recipe we know will benefit all golfers and represents the most innovative iron package since the Eye 2. So far in all our testing with the Tour, the results have been dramatic. Controllable, predictable distance improvements in the long and mid irons, with longer, easy to control and immense feeling short irons.
