How long does body stay warm following death? follow-up?
Accident happened at 2:30 am in the foothills. Conditions clear and calm, appx temp 60 degrees. Height 6'4" and 150 lbs. Alcohol involved, Vitreous 0.157, Blood 0.259. Clothing a lightweight sleeveless under shirt, a tee shirt and short sleeve lightweight polo shirt, jeans and underwear. The shirts had been cut open by a local paramed who just happened on the scene at appx 3:30. Coroner arrived at 5:15..his report indicated Rigor mortis was not appreciated (i don't know what that means), Lividity was observed on his back and blanched with a light fingertip press. His body was warm to touch at 5:15 am.. The coroner report says he died within minutes of accident of blunt head trama. There was an endotracheal tube was in his mouth and cardiac electrodes on his chest and lower abdomen where there when coroners arrived and had been placed by passing paramedic who arrived at 3:34 am. Any help in understanding here is much appreciated.
I've been a medic for 16 years and from what you've posted here's what it looks like. Since he was intubated the medic felt that down time was within guidelines to innitiate ACLS. Since this was in a rural area it could have been a few minutes to get a responding transport unit to the scene. Don't know where you are, but here in my state protocols are such that after 20 minutes of ACLS without change the responding medic can contact medical control for permission to withold any continuing measures on such a case.
