How to Get the Right Backswing for the New Golf Swing

One of the most important parts to your golf game is your golf backswing.  If you don't bring the club face through correctly, you'll find yourself either right or left of the fairway.  So first thing to do is keep the club face about 8 to 12 inches behind the ball.  When you first start out, be sure to only use your hands and arms keeping everything square.

In order to get the right swing, you'll have to keep the club face straight.  Then of course you also need to keep the body balance, which includes your shoulders.  If by chance you notice that your swing is not working the way you want, then stop and start over.

Okay, now we're ready to get into the swing itself.  Address the ball and square your hands and club face.  While standing over the ball, be sure to keep emphasis on the shoulders as well.  They must be parallel when you start the backswing or everything is lost.

Another important feature is doing everything the same way each time.  If you cannot keep the same routine through your swing, you will continue to add strokes to your game.  This means you have to keep your hands and wrists in the same locations each time you address the ball.  Doing so will give you a better golf swing.

If you truly want to elevate your golf short game to the next level, learn to be repetitive.  We can't stress this enough, which is why seem to be repeating things over and over again.

The short shot swing is important.

If you have direct contact with the club with your hands, then you're headed down the right path.  As you begin your swing there will be a sensation that forms in your forearm.  If everything is flowing properly it will also be noticeable in your upper should as well.  In order to make this happen you have to retract the stomach.  It will keep the shoulder tucked up underneath your chin.

If by chance you think you can't retract your stomach, you can.

Now you have to worry about your upper arm leverage.  In order to make this part successful, it means the inner arm needs to be extended.  However, it shouldn't be stiff.

While this may sound like an easy process, it's hard to keep your forearms and wrists from opening.  Then again, the club-face can be set perfectly if you do this right.  If you're able to nail this step, then your motion will be flawless.  Just don't forget about the stomach.

Upper arm leverage can make everything easier just as long as you don't over do it.  The best thing to do is find yourself a good line to swing through.  It's like a nice pattern that needs to be woven every time.  If you can learn to keep your swing within the line, you'll end up with a better swing.

Now that you've accomplished this point, let's recap everything and talk about the feet.

1. Feel the sensation in your forearm and shoulder as you make the turn.

2. Retract the stomach.  One of the most overlooked parts to the backswing.

3. Last but not least, think about your knees.  You have to make sure you flex the knee.  However, only to the point where the weight can shift properly and allow you to turn while keeping the body balanced.

Okay, let's get back to your feet.

Ever noticed when you take a step while walking how the weight shifts?  It's something that just comes natural and we take for granted.  This is what we want you to do when you're shifting your weight during the backswing.

Even though this will depend on the side of the ball you hit on, it's an important feature to following through.  You will get more drive through the ball and be more balance.  Just be sure that when you come back through, your heel comes off the ground slightly.
