Why Rowing Is Not A Competitive Sport
For most people, you can either love or hate rowing but you cannot really be in between. Most people don't find it particularly spectacular to watch compared to the big team sports. Whoever has practiced it though, has a totally different and unique idea because of their experience!
I was never particularly interested in rowing until the day that the company where I work decided to organise a team building day out of the office. It was great news for everyone and made the whole team very happy as we had been working hard for a while and we needed having to relax and have some fun outside the office. No need to mention the fun aspect of doing such a thing.
The Corporate hospitality event took place in a beautiful scotish river and we were lucky enough to row during a beautiful sunny day. That would be my first ever experience with rowing and I found it quite entertaining. The team spirit is so high and it makes everyone feel as part of the same thing. Maintaining the team spirit is really important the value of each individual is not the most important thing. Besides, rowing is not just about strength and power but more about being synchronised with your teammates. There is no place for selfish attitudes as they will be completely disapproved.
The Henley Regatta rowing event, which takes place in London once a year, was the event that really remained into my memory for years and resulted into my rowing addiction. The best rowers from all around the world compete for 5 days in the UK capital and that makes it an incredibly great spectacle. What is great about it is that even though there is very intense competition, the people around you always remain calm and friendly unlike rivaries that take place in football and the rest of the big sports.
